Terminally-ill rocker Steve “The Gangsta Rabbi” Lieberman is currently compiling songs for his next album in real time on Soundcloud. Titled 2nd King of Jewish Punk (in reference to his King of Jewish Punk album from January), the album, which will be Lieberman’s 31st CD and 69th including tapes, is set for full release on April 14. The most recent tracks added include “My Very Last Year 3468 (Extreme Punk Thrash edit)” and “I Want A Bass With A Whammy Bar“.
The Promised Land (Israeli rapper Sagol 59‘s Hebrew-language Grateful Dead tribute project) recently appeared at The Deanery in Brooklyn, NY, during which they performed their cover of “New Minglewood Blues“. The onstage menagerie included Noah Lehrman on drums and Soulfarm‘s C Lanzbom on guitar. You can watch the clip below.

Speaking of Matisyahu proteges…Indie folk singer/songwriter Levi Robin has just released “Airplane”, the second single from his as-yet-untitled full-length album with producers Stu Brooks and Joel Hamilton.
Over a stirring background of twangy western guitar and whooping background vocals, Robin sings of a world beyond the physical: “Would you believe me if I told you/There’s a sun beyond the clouds?…I’ll take you on an airplane/Show you what your eyes don’t see”.
